Food is key in the islands’ culture, and many traditional dishes can be found in cafes around the islands, most of the Cook Islands traditional dishes are cooked in a Polynesian underground oven called an Umu. If you are lucky you may even stumble upon a traditional feast, called a Umukai, meaning food from the oven.
